Additional Survey Services

Beyond our core survey operations, MVM offers a range of complementary marine capabilities — from real-time underwater positioning to passive geophysical detection methods.

Methodology by Equipment

Three complementary acoustic systems work together to provide a complete picture of the seabed environment.

Acoustic Tracking

Underwater Positioning (USBL)

An Underwater Positioning Service using USBL (Ultra-Short Baseline) is the industry-standard method for tracking subsea assets in real-time. Unlike GPS, which cannot penetrate water, USBL uses acoustic pings to calculate the position of ROVs, divers, or equipment relative to a surface vessel.

Real-time Tracking
Provide bridge and ROV pilots with live coordinates of subsea targets throughout operations.

Safety of Personnel
Monitor exact depth and location of divers within safe decompression limits and operational zones.

Target Intervention
Guide an ROV or diver to specific subsea coordinates (wellhead, lost tool) with high precision.

Data Georeferencing
Stamp every ROV video frame and sonar image with exact geographical position for later analysis.

Passive Detection

Magnetometer Survey

A Magnetometer Survey is a passive geophysical method used to detect and map ferrous (iron or steel) objects on or below the seabed. It complements acoustic methods by finding objects that are invisible to sonar because they are buried beneath sediment.

Buried Hazard Detection
Find objects invisible to sonar — buried anchors, discarded junk, or covered shipwrecks.

Infrastructure Mapping
Precisely locate buried or self-buried subsea pipelines and power cables.

UXO Clearance
Identify potential unexploded ordnance — a mandatory safety step in many offshore regions.

Archaeological & Geological
Stamp every ROV video frame and sonar image with exact geographical position for later analysis.
